Summary:

As a Surgical Technician, you will play a crucial role in patient care by preparing and supporting pre-operative patients. You will uphold hospital standards while maintaining aseptic techniques, ensuring the safety and comfort of our patients. Additionally, you will prepare the operating room by setting up instruments and supplies tailored to each specific surgery.

Responsibilities:

• Meet the expectations of the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Assist in delivering direct patient care under the guidance of a professional nurse, while preparing for surgical procedures.
• Ability to proficiently scrub in various specialty areas including Transplants, Open Heart, Urology, and Robotics is preferred.
• Establish and maintain the sterile field, facilitating the passing of instruments and sutures to the physician as required.
• Utilize the physician preference card to ensure effective case preparation in the OR.
• Keep preference cards updated for each procedure.
• Work collaboratively within the surgical team to provide optimal patient care.
• Maintain a safe surgical environment through diligent aseptic practices.
• Demonstrate expertise in handling all surgical supplies and instruments effectively.
• Adhere to Universal Barrier Precautions for safety in every patient care situation.
• Monitor and manage the surgical environment, enforcing proper traffic control and OR sanitation policies.
• Understand facility protocols for decontamination, processing, and sterilization of instruments and supplies.
• Adapt patient care methods to meet the unique needs of each individual, considering their physical, psychosocial, and cultural backgrounds.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education/Skills

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of the Surgical Technology program or an accredited LVN/LPN program is necessary.

Experience

• Preference for candidates with 2 or more years of experience.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

• BLS certification is required.
• Must achieve Certified Surgical Technologist status within 180 days of graduation, or possess an active LVN/LPN License.
