Position Summary
We are looking for a motivated and innovative student to join the ADME/MS team for a 10-week internship beginning in June 2026. The main goals of this internship are to miniaturize an automated in vitro ADME assays from the 96-well to the 384-well format, lower operational costs, and boost assay throughput, generating more reliable data to advance our drug discovery portfolio.
Undergraduates from all backgrounds with relevant experience are encouraged to apply. During this internship, you will be immersed in a fast-paced environment at the heart of the drug discovery process, utilizing state-of-the-art instrumentation to tackle real-world research challenges. Your work will focus on developing a high throughput metabolic stability assay to more efficiently evaluate the pharmacokinetic profiles of drug candidates. This experience will expose you to a wide array of advanced research technologies, helping you sharpen your scientific skills and grow as a researcher.
The full-time internship will take place June - August 2026. Key Responsibilities
- Gain scientific understanding of the metabolic stability assay and obtain hands-on experience with the current 96-well format.
- Develop and optimize methods to miniaturize the assay to a 384-well format by testing and adjusting parameters such as reagent volumes, incubation times, and plate layouts. Identify, troubleshoot, and refine steps to achieve predefined performance criteria.
- Validate the miniaturized 384-well assay through side-by-side comparison with results from the standard 96-well format.
- Present the miniaturized assay to the team and provide training and support during the transition.
Qualifications & Experience
- Junior or Senior undergraduate pursuing a degree in a relevant scientific field, such as Chemistry, Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline
- Hands-on laboratory experience, including proficiency in basic pipetting techniques and familiarity with multi-channel pipettes or automated liquid handling systems
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot experimental issues and adapt protocols to improve efficiency and scalability
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to follow experimental protocols accurately
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with colleagues and share findings
- All candidates must be authorized to work in the US both at the time of hire and for the duration of their employment. Please note that immigration or visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
This is a temporary, time-bound position intended for the duration of the internship or co-op program. Employment in this role does not imply or guarantee ongoing or permanent employment with BMS.
The starting hourly compensation for this assignment is within the range of $27.00 to $29.00/hr.
