The successful candidates (2 positions) will gain experience at the exciting interface of engineered T-cell biology, gene editing technology and cell therapy process development across research and manufacturing production scales.

The successful candidate will support the design and execution of experiments, analysis of results, and communication of conclusions across teams. The intern will gain a deep understanding of responsibilities of the BioEngineering group as a whole and how those responsibilities fit into the larger cell therapy organization. With guidance from a manager, the candidate must be able to work independently and demonstrate good written and oral communication skills. The role will provide functional knowledge of laboratory equipment, gene editing and cell culture techniques, statistical software programs, and valuable exposure to the industry standards of CAR-T research and manufacturing. Upon completion of the internship, the candidate will have the opportunity to present their findings at an internal symposium.

The full-time internship will take place June - August 2026. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute hands-on cell culture experiments with supervision to assess impact and feasibility of scaling novel gene edited platforms for generating CAR-T product. Complete timely and thorough documentation of electronic laboratory notebooks
  • Critically analyze and interpret data using statistical methods and leverage data to generate models, visualize trends, and guide hypotheses
  • Organize, record, and maintain large experimental data sets related to T cell culture
  • Communicate study findings across multiple departments through presentations and discussions
  • Maintain a safe work environment in accordance with policies/procedures/regulations

Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • Currently enrolled as a junior or senior in an accredited Bachelor's program in Bioengineering, Biological Sciences, or a related field; Master's students also welcome.
  • Current graduation date must be later than August 2026.
  • Hands-on lab experience in mammalian cell culture; proficiency with aseptic technique.
  • Exposure to bioanalytical methods such as flow cytometry, ELISA, qPCR, or fluorescence microscopy (experience with at least one).
  • Familiarity with maintaining organized lab notebooks (paper or electronic) and documenting procedures and results with strong attention to detail.
  • Foundational understanding of cell biology; interest in T-cell biology.
  • Strong teamwork, organization, and clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn through hands-on work and mentorship.
  • All candidates must be authorized to work in the US both at the time of hire and for the duration of their employment. Please note that immigration or visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred:

  • Experience with primary cell culture, preferably immune cells.
  • Knowledge of gene editing technologies
  • Experience with transfection, electroporation or other non-viral gene delivery techniques.
  • Understanding of statistical methods of experimental design
  • Familiarity with electronic lab notebooks (e.g., Benchling) and basic data analysis in Excel or similar tools.

This is a temporary, time-bound position intended for the duration of the internship or co-op program. Employment in this role does not imply or guarantee ongoing or permanent employment with BMS.

The starting hourly compensation for this assignment is within the range of $27.00 to $29.00/hr. Please note that the final individual compensation and any applicable benefits will be determined by your employer of record (and not BMS). Factors influencing this decision may include the characteristics of the assignment, such as demonstrated experience, required skill, and the geographic location of the job. Compensation details are subject to change.

If you come across a role that intrigues you but doesn't perfectly line up with your resume, we encourage you to apply anyway. You could be one step away from work that will transform your life and career.
