CHA Consulting, Inc. is currently seeking a SUE Technician to join our Infrastructure Transportation Team at our Columbia, SC office.

When transportation is done right, it means safe and efficient movement of people and goods from point A to point B. The SUE Technician is responsible for supporting field and office related subsurface utility engineering tasks. This includes basic SUE computations, records research, equipment maintenance, and operations. This is an entry level technical position that is focused on working with and supporting experienced SUE Technicians to complete various assigned tasks. All field work conducted by a SUE Technician will be supervised by a crew member who is in responsible charge. This individual will be measured on their flexibility and ability to work as a team member, ability to support the completion of assigned tasks and ability to become proficient with various company locating equipment, data collection standards, and procedures.

Requirements

• High school diploma required; A.A.S. and/or B.S. degree preferred
• Valid US driver's license required
• No prior experience required; however, prior internship(s) and/or applicable coursework preferred
• Experience using electromagnetic pipe and cable locating equipment for designation of subsurface utilities preferred
• Experience with DOT, municipal, and/or public utility projects is a plus
• SUE experience on South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) and other transportation projects is a plus
• Working knowledge of Ground Penetrating Radar and vacuum excavation is a plus
• Surveying and/or drafting experience is a plus
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office preferred
• Experience with engineering, computational, and modeling software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.) is a plus
• Good oral and written communications
• Demonstrates a willingness to learn about the SUE industry
• Has a strong knowledge in math, especially with trigonometry and geometry
• Strong ability to work in a team environment
• Ability and desire to meet client driven schedules
• Ability to travel short-term is required
• Must be able to carry and lift heavy equipment over rough, uneven terrain and physically navigate varying field conditions
• Ability to work outdoors in different weather conditions required
• Ability to represent him/herself and the company in a professional manner to the general public

Salary Range:

$22.00 - $27.00

Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards.
