Land Surveying Crew Chief
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Land Surveying Crew Chief to lead field survey operations for a variety of projects including boundary, topographic, construction, and ALTA/NSPS land title surveys. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing a field crew, operating survey equipment, ensuring data accuracy, and coordinating with project managers and clients.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead and manage a field survey crew on various types of land surveying projects.
- Operate and maintain survey instruments including total stations, GPS units, data collectors, and levels.
- Perform field calculations and take accurate field notes.
- Interpret and execute survey plans and instructions from project managers.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and applicable regulations.
- Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
- Train and mentor junior crew members.
- Upload and process field data for office staff and assist with QA/QC as needed.
- Travel to job sites as required, sometimes including overnight stays.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in surveying or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 35 years of field surveying experience, with at least 1 year in a crew chief role.
- Proficiency with survey equipment and software (e.g., Trimble, Leica, Carlson, AutoCAD Civil 3D).
- Strong understanding of land surveying principles, methods, and legal standards.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and legal descriptions.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
Preferred skills:
- Experience with drone/UAV surveying and LiDAR technologies.
- Familiarity with GIS systems and data integration.
- Certifications such as CST (Certified Survey Technician) or SIT (Surveyor in Training) are a plus.
Physical requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Extended periods of standing, walking, and working outdoors.
- Manual dexterity to operate survey equipment.
Pay and benefits:
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
