The General Manager (GM) is responsible for leading through Petco’s vision of “Healthier Pets. Happier People. Better World.” to develop a high-performing team that delivers top-line sales growth while maintaining welfare, health and proper care of all animals. The GM leads a team of store department managers and is accountable for all aspects of managing a single retail store, including in-store services. This leader focuses on people (talent acquisition, training, and development), performance (guest service, sales, and expense control), and process (standard operating procedures and policies) to achieve overall profitability. The GM must exercise discretion and independent judgment to execute store activity and create the best possible partner, guest and pet experience. This position requires a passion for pets, process excellence, a drive for results, and the ability to lead and influence.

People

• Build a team that embodies the Petco brand by delivering exceptional service and driving guest loyalty.
• Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team of top talent.
• Train, coach, and develop department-level leaders and hourly store partners in all areas required to run the store efficiently and to Petco standards, including effective rollout selling models.
• Create an environment that inspires growth and engagement of partners.
• Promote a positive culture of teamwork by working alongside the leadership team, establishing priorities, and providing clear direction.
• Ensure quick and courteous service to all PETCO customers by helping partners determine guest needs and sharing product knowledge to meet customer needs.
• Responsible for all partner performance management in the store and support a continuous improvement mindset.
• Performance: Meet or exceed goals related to total store sales, profitability, and operational excellence.
• Schedule and adjust labor hours & payroll to maximize productivity and achieve sales & payroll goals.
• Review and interpret financial and operational reporting, including store visits and audits.
• Identify underperforming metrics and develop strategies using Petco programs, tools, and resources to improve and grow the business.
• Market the store and its products; oversee planning of in-store and community events such as adoptions, school visits and other local promotions and animal-welfare events.

Process

• Ensure the proper health, appearance, welfare, and handling of all animals.
• Ensure merchandise is properly priced, displayed and stocked according to inventory levels; make merchandising decisions with regard to visual standards, ad setup and monthly ad planner guidelines, adjusting as needed for each store.
• Complete and submit accounting, inventory management and payroll paperwork in a timely manner; ensure expenses stay within budgeted levels.
• Maintain the store’s appearance in line with Petco standards and safety procedures.
• Protect Petco pets & merchandise and minimize loss by meeting store standards and procedures, including safety, inventory control, and loss prevention.
• Ensure store is opened/closed in accordance with policies and procedures, especially safety and security-related ones.
• Maintain the store’s professional image, appearance and cleanliness.

Nature Of Supervision

General instruction is provided on some tasks; the District Manager will periodically review store performance and results. The GM is expected to manage payroll, sales and shrink budgets and is accountable for results.

Supervisory Responsibility

The GM is responsible for all people working and activities conducted in the center stores and services functions.

Work Environment

The majority of duties are indoors; occasional stocking, customer carry-outs, and deposits may require leaving the store. This position requires bending, kneeling, moving merchandise (up to 50 pounds) and standing for long periods. Some travel is required.

Pay Range: The pay ranges outlined below are presented in accordance with state-specific regulations. These ranges may differ in other areas and could be subject to variation based on regulatory minimum wage requirements. Actual pay rates will depend on factors such as position, location, level of experience, and applicable state or local minimum wage laws. If the regulatory minimum wage exceeds the minimum indicated in the pay range below, the regulatory minimum wage will be the minimum rate applied.

$33.50 - $55.50
