The Protein, Bioanalytical, and Material Sciences (PBMS) group is part of the Precision Medicine, Bioanalytical and Translational Sciences (PMBATS) team. PMBATS leads internal and external bioanalytical and diagnostic research & development activities to support multiple disease areas of interest including hematological malignancies, inflammatory disease programs, neuroscience, cardiovascular, and solid tumor indications. The PMBATS group integrates scientific insights of multiple functions to provide innovative solutions that will make precision medicine a reality for the patients and health care providers we serve.
Position Summary:
The primary purpose of this position is to lead and conduct laboratory experiments for the biophysical characterization of protein reagents for use across multiple technology platforms, including but not limited to: Flow cytometry, IHC, and immunoassays. In this role the individual will be responsible for collaborating and communicating across the organization to assure on-time delivery of high-quality characterized materials.
Position Responsibilities
- Works independently to design, execute, and analyze surface plasmon resonance (SPR), biolayer interferometry (BLI), and/or other experiments to assess biophysical/binding properties of antibody and non-antibody protein reagents.
- Works independently to design and execute method development experiments for immunoassays.
- Performs method development and refines characterization protocols as needed.
- Works independently to interpret results, plan next steps, compile final data summaries, and present results to stakeholders.
- Leads projects and provides oversight of experimental design and data review for junior staff members.
- May lead scientific collaborations and/or contracted research as needed.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand project needs and relay information back to the group.
- May serve as a technical point of contact within the group.
- May lead innovation projects related to the biophysical characterization of protein reagents.
- Troubleshoots assay problems and instrument malfunctions.
- Maintains required training per BMS standard operating procedures.
- Maintains and completes notebooks and other documentation as per departmental guidelines.
- Achieves objectives in a manner consistent with the BMS Behaviors
- Leads or contribute to writing and presentation of findings in the form of posters, publications, and oral presentations (internal and external)
Key Competency Requirements
- Extensive operational and theoretical understanding of SPR and BLI.
- Experience in biochemistry and a deep understanding of molecular binding interactions and concepts is required.
- Experience with immunoassay development, conjugation, cell culture and cell-based neutralizing antibody assays is a plus.
- Good understanding of antibody and non-antibody protein generation is a plus.
- Knowledge of the healthcare industry as well as the drug discovery and development process.
- Proficient in scientific writing with good verbal communication skills and the ability to independently interpret and deliver results.
- Ability to effectively work across levels and functions with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.

Senior Scientist:
- Bachelor’s Degree with 7+ years of related industry experience
- Master’s Degree with 5+ years of related industry experience
- Ph.D. in related field with 2+ years of related industry experience
Principal Scientist:
- Bachelor’s Degree with 8+ years of related industry experience
- Master’s Degree with 6+ years of related industry experience
- Ph.D. in related field with 4+ years of related industry experience
The starting compensation for this job is a range from $123,000 - $145,000, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).
