Summary:

As a vital member of our Trauma Service team, the Senior Trauma Registrar will play a key role in data management for the Trauma Registry. This position ensures compliance with all regulations set forth by the Department of State Health Services, aiding the development of a robust performance improvement program for trauma while also supporting essential research initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• Exhibit competence in OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Provide essential clerical, statistical, and informational support to the Trauma Service.
• Maintain an organized database for efficient retrieval of trauma statistics.
• Accurately identify trauma patients and abstract necessary data for entry into the trauma registry, adhering to established trauma inclusion criteria.
• Proficiently perform ICD-10 and Abbreviated Injury Scaling (AIS) coding.
• Keep all trauma registry records current, fulfilling requirements set by trauma center leadership and National Trauma Data Standards.
• Demonstrate expertise in data capture for accurate ISS, Trauma Score, TRISS, GCS, and survival calculations.
• Complete record abstraction, data entry, and validation according to ACS standards and trauma program policies.
• Conduct data uploads to necessary regional, state, and national registries as mandated.
• Generate reports and queries from the Trauma Registry as requested by leadership.
• Manage the Trauma Registry Database and promptly address any database-related issues with leadership.
• Analyze trauma registry data for epidemiological insights and report trends affecting performance and initiatives.
• Ensure confidentiality of all sensitive data, including autopsy reports and performance improvement activities.
• Prepare and organize reports and correspondence in line with trauma center protocols.
• Guide and mentor new registry staff as needed.
• Engage in trauma-related activities within the Regional Advisory Council.
• Pursue ongoing education on TQIP and relevant trauma topics.
• Maintain a professional demeanor and promote positive workplace culture.
• Support trauma program initiatives focused on injury prevention and education.
• Take on additional responsibilities as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education/Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent experience required.
• Completion of trauma registry software training within 90 days of employment.
• Must obtain 24 hours of trauma-related continuing education every three years.
• Required courses upon hire include:
• Abbreviated Injury Scale course by AAAM.
• ICD-10 course in trauma, renewed every five years.

Experience

• 2-4 years of experience in ICD-10 coding and AIS coding preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

• Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) certification required.
