Join our dynamic team at Leidos Engineering as a Senior Substation Engineering Project Manager. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with lead engineers and account managers to support cutting-edge substation engineering projects for electric utility clients across Central and Midwestern United States. You will be part of our established Power Delivery Solutions (PDS) division, known for providing comprehensive consulting services to both publicly-owned and investor-owned electric utilities.
Please note that while this position offers remote working capabilities, it requires local and regional travel to client offices and project sites, ensuring we meet the needs of our valued clients in the area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and perform Substation Physical Electrical engineering design at HV and EHV voltage levels, ensuring adherence to industry standards and project requirements.
- Oversee Protection and Control engineering design, which includes relaying, AC and DC schematics, SCADA systems, and more.
- Conduct engineering studies and calculations related to substation performance and compliance.
- Apply safety codes and regulatory compliance requirements to all projects.
- Create specifications for equipment, materials, and construction processes.
- Perform quality control reviews of engineering deliverables and lead collaborative QC meetings.
- Provide technical guidance and support to project teams for successful outcomes.
- Ensure thorough documentation of project technical data and maintain open communication across all disciplines.
- Act as the primary client Point of Contact, addressing project-related issues directly.
- Engage in client meetings and job-site visits to facilitate design collection and delivery of engineering solutions.
- Evaluate existing facilities for potential upgrades and present findings to clients.
- Develop conceptual designs to support project planning phases.
- Prepare and review project proposals, technical documents, and accurate estimates of project scope and man-hours.
- Create project schedules using MS Project, Primavera, or similar software.
- Participate in local and regional travel (approximately 15%) to meet client needs.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with 8+ years of relevant experience in utility substation design/engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License required.
- Proven commitment to quality assurance and control in substation engineering.
- Deep understanding of the utility grid and substation engineering principles.
- Familiarity with industry standards (NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE/ANSI) and their application.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate engineering and design issues effectively.
- Ability to thrive under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficient in MS Office applications.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with a team-focused approach.
- Ability to travel locally and regionally up to 15% of the time.
- PMP certification is a plus.
- Extensive experience in project and program management with a grasp of finance and accounting principles.
- Familiarity with Power BI is desirable.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with substation physical and protection/control design.
- Knowledge of engineering software (SKM, ASPEN, ETAP, CDEGS).
- History of serving as a firm-client liaison in an engineering capacity.
- Experience leading substation projects and conducting QC reviews.
- Involvement in renewable generation or interconnection projects.
- Background in working on EPC projects.
- Membership in professional engineering organizations such as IEEE or PES.
- Experience in construction support.

Pay Range: $89,700.00 - $162,150.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and includes various factors when extending offers.
