Job Title: Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist

Department: MH Laboratory

Location: Massena Hospital

Hours Per Week: Per Diem

Schedule: 8 hour shift

Summary: Join our dedicated medical team as a Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist, where you will play a crucial role in improving patient care. Utilizing your expertise, you will accurately conduct clinical laboratory analyses on various specimens, including blood, urine, body fluids, and tissues, adhering to our high standards of quality and compliance with regulatory guidelines. Your advanced problem-solving skills will be essential for identifying and resolving complex clinical and instrument issues, ensuring prompt and accurate results for physician diagnosis and treatment. You may also provide weekend and holiday supervisory coverage as needed.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct testing proficiently and within expected turnaround times.
• Interpret and communicate clinical test results, correlating them with patient history for effective care decisions.
• Notify physicians and nursing units of critical lab results and equipment issues affecting testing.
• Perform quality control, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments.
• Prepare reagents and manage the inventory of laboratory supplies while being mindful of costs.
• Provide supervisory oversight during weekends and holidays when necessary.
• Stay updated on computer functions for efficient test ordering, execution, and reporting.
• Assist in training new staff and provide mentorship to existing team members on procedures and instrumentation.
• Teach in the School of Medical Technology and support specialized diagnostic procedures.
• Engage in research and development of new technologies, providing written evaluations to management.
• Other duties as assigned by the manager.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience for licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
• Current New York State Department of Education License or Limited Permit as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
• A valid NYS driver's license if travel is required.
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in Medical Technology Laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
• Previous experience in a Clinical or Pathology Laboratory.
• Experience in a laboratory supervisory or leadership role.

Physical Requirements:
M - Medium Work - Requires exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently. Frequent walking, standing, or squatting is necessary.

Pay Range: $41.75 - $47.00
