Overview
The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Environmental Service Worker for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). The primary Purpose of the Housekeeping Service Work Position is to preform various tasks to maintain a clean, safe, sanitary and attractive environment in Rutgers Biomedical and Health Services
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Performs proper cleaning to ensure cleanliness of assigned area.
- Performs isolation cleaning procedures as instructed in order to prohibit the spread of infection.
- Performs hard floor care and various levels of carpet care.
- Renders moving services and performs functional set ups according to requests throughout the University.
- Performs various grounds cleaning tasks.
- Performs snow removal tasks.
- Operates University vehicles and vehicular equipment.
- Maintains workflow in designated areas with assigned workers.
- Recognizes and acknowledges problems and maintains good communication among workers.
- Performs final check and clean up at the end shift.
- Interacts with persons of all ages in a diverse, multicultural environment with respect and consideration.
- Understands and adhesives to Rutgers' compliance standards as they appear in Rutgers' Corporate Compliance Policy, Corporate Integrity Agreement, Code of Conduct, Conflict of interest Policy and HIPAA.

Minimum Education and Experience
- Two (2) years or more prior experience in institutional environmental services.
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to carry out the duties of the position.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Quality Control System as well as environmental controls.
- Prior supervisory experience an asset.
WORK ENVIRONMENT : Up to 2/3 of the time, the position requires exposure to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), exposure to blood borne pathogens that requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment, exposure to dust, fumes or airborne particles, and exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals that require the use of Personal Protective Equipment, exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Less than 1/3 of the time the position requires exposure to risk of electrical shock, exposure to risk of radiation, exposure to hazardous waste. The position requires work near moving mechanical parts up to 2/3 of the time, work in precarious places less than 1/3 of the time. The typical amounts of noise for the position are moderate to loud noise.
