The Senior Commodity Specialist serves as a key liaison between assigned divisions and our Strategic Sourcing & Procurement team. This position is crucial for managing commodity-related inquiries and providing in-depth analysis centered on consumption and economic factors. Duties include developing advanced models and tools to guide risk management, margin improvement, and asset utilization. We value effective project management, strong presentation skills, and clear communication with stakeholders. Your goal will be to ensure all expectations are not only met but surpassed while adhering to BJ’s policies and procedures. Building strong relationships with assigned divisions is essential to help them integrate commodity market insights into the sourcing process.

• Deliver timely and actionable insights to key stakeholders, including the merchant team and Strategic Sourcing & Procurement.
• Analyze historical pricing data and respond to price increases, utilizing commodity information sources and examining component costs.
• Create, refine, and implement sophisticated tools and models to forecast pricing, supply and demand, and global market trends.
• Manage and review pricing formula and cost models to enhance efficiencies and manage risk.
• Develop and automate commodity market tracking reports monitoring COGS and Indirect SG&A expenses.
• Oversee project management tasks, maintaining a detailed project plan and regularly updating stakeholders on strategy and progress.
• Collaborate with team members to generate analysis that strengthens our competitive position.
• Support initiatives related to technology and data aimed at more accurately predicting commodity fluctuations.
• Identify and communicate cost savings opportunities to the Strategic Sourcing & Procurement team and the merchant team.
• Provide thought leadership for new data, technology, tools, and innovation.
• Independently tackle moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, escalating more complicated problems as necessary.
• Exhibit strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Proficient in PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
• Possess a thorough understanding of commodity futures markets and forward curves.
• Demonstrate strong data analysis capabilities and a keen curiosity.
• Exhibit strong research skills and exceptional attention to detail.
• Organizational skills are vital.
• Bachelor's Degree Required with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

Environmental Job Conditions

This role is fast-paced and requires a team-oriented, service-centric mindset. You will regularly interact with colleagues across Merchandising, Analytics, and both Direct and Indirect Strategic Procurement.

This position operates in a hybrid model, with in-office days at BJ's Club Support Center in Marlborough, MA, scheduled for Tuesday through Thursday and remote work on Monday and Friday.

In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the following represents a good faith estimate of the compensation range for this position. At BJ's Wholesale Club, we take into account various non-discriminatory factors when determining salary. The starting pay range for this role is $76,000.00.
