Purpose
Operates basic saw types such as pop-up, miter, web saws, etc. to cut planks, timbers, or boards according to work orders by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Reviews work order to determine cut(s) to be made.
- Adjusts saw for required cuts.
- Adjusts speed of saw and feed rolls.
- Observes automatic feeding of lumber to saw or pushes end of lumber into feed rolls.
- Stacks cut lumber after processing.
- Advises supervisor of dull saw blades.
- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Language Skills - Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
Mathematical Skills - Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to read at tape measure at 1/16 inch. Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables. Other Skills and Abilities - Must be able to identify species, size, and grade of lumber.
Work Environment / Physical Activity
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee is occasionally required to walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
