The role you'll contribute: The Registered Nurse - Phone Triage & Education, reporting to the Physician, Mid-Level and/or Office Manager and while working within an ambulatory outpatient office setting, provides triage (sorting/prioritizing patients) telephone service to ensure prompt identification of patients with high-risk conditions. May refer patients, schedule appointments or provide appropriate education/advice to callers. Additionally, may provide nursing care for patients at the practice.

The value you'll bring to the team:

• Provides nursing triage services and health advice for patients and managed care members over the phone. Performs short evaluation of the patient situation to estimate severity of illness and/or injury including learning about chief complaint and, as possible, obtaining vital sign and mental status information.
• Documents patients' questions or concerns. Tracks questions/concerns/calls in appropriate database.
• Determines urgency of seeing the patient based on brief assessment and on familiarity with a patients condition and history. Confers with physician as needed. May give physician referrals as needed.
• Sends those with high-risk chief complaints such as chest pain, abdominal pain, or severe headaches to ER immediately or arranges for ambulance.
• Sets up appointment for patients who do not need to go to ER but need to see a physician or arranges for an appointment scheduler to make the appointment.

The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:

• Registered Nurse (RN) degree
• Minimum three (3) years of experience as RN
• BSN or MSN degree
• One (1) to two (2) years of telephone triage experience, preferably in medical practice setting.
• Prior medical surgical experience
• Current state RN license.
• Current CPR certificate
