Key Responsibilities:

Patient Assessment:
- Conduct comprehensive physical, emotional, and psychological assessments of patients.
- Monitor vital signs and identify changes in patient condition.
- Review medical history and collaborate with the healthcare team for appropriate care plans.
Monitoring and Care:
- Continuously monitor patients' vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and oxygen levels.
- Administer medications, IV therapy, and treatments as prescribed.
- Utilize advanced equipment, including cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, and oxygen therapy devices.
- Detect and respond to changes in patient condition quickly and effectively.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to provide coordinated care.
- Communicate with patients and families to explain diagnoses, treatment plans, and care procedures.
- Participate in daily rounds and case discussions to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Patient Education:
- Educate patients and their families regarding diagnoses, treatments, recovery plans, and lifestyle changes.
- Provide discharge planning and instructions to patients to ensure safe transitions.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records using electronic health systems.
- Follow all legal, ethical, and regulatory guidelines in patient care and documentation.
- Adhere to hospital policies and procedures regarding safety, infection control, and patient confidentiality.
Emergency Response:
- Respond to emergency situations with rapid decision-making and interventions.
- Be prepared to take action in critical situations, such as resuscitation or sudden deterioration of patient status.
Advocacy and Emotional Support:
- Act as a patient advocate, ensuring their rights are upheld and their needs are met.
- Provide emotional support and comfort to patients and their families, especially during stressful or traumatic experiences.
Quality Improvement:
- Participate in continuous education and training programs.
- Engage in hospital quality improvement initiatives and contribute to patient safety measures.

Skills and Qualifications:

Education:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- RN licensure in the state of practice.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification may be required or preferred.
- CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse) certification is a plus.
Experience:
- Minimum of 1-2 years of nursing experience in a hospital setting, with preference given to those with experience in PCU, ICU, or critical care.
Skills:
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle complex patient care scenarios.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Proficient with electronic medical records (EMR) and patient monitoring technology.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.
- Capacity to lift and move patients as needed.
- Ability to handle emotional and physically demanding situations.

Work Environment:

The position is typically based in a hospital's Progressive Care Unit, where the nurse will be on their feet for much of the shift, monitoring patients with varied medical conditions. PCU nurses often work in teams and collaborate closely with physicians and other healthcare providers.
