The Police Lieutenant position requires possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license. Candidates must pass a pre-employment criminal background check, submit to a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check, and maintain certification status.

Graduation from an accredited law enforcement academy and at least three years of supervisory experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified are required. Certification/Licensure State of New Mexico Certified Law Enforcement Officer, or eligibility for Certification by waiver is also required. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
