The Point of Care Testing Coordinator is responsible for coordinating bedside testing performed throughout the various hospital departments. Works closely with nursing services to maintain accreditation for POC testing at LCMC Health including monitoring of quality control and proficiency testing.
Ensures that the POC testing meets all regulatory requirements for standards, designing organized, well documented and thorough program providing assistance to all POC testing user sites.
Compiles all data into a monthly report to be reviewed by the Laboratory manager noting any deficiencies or errors.
Monitors POC patient results. Reviews glucose meter results, troubleshoot any unusual or unexpected values.
Troubleshoots performance failures and initiates corrective action and/or repair. Maintains glucose meter inventory and changeout.
Remains current on POCT instrumentation and procedures in the field. Gives input into selection of instrumentation appropriate for POCT needs.
Identifies and implements avenues for POCT quality process improvement in collaboration with the senior management.
Coordinates testing education to include organizing required training and competency testing for non-laboratory staff performing POC testing.
Job Qualifications:
Education: Minimum Required: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Medical Technology or related Clinical Science, Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience and/or fulfillment of the educational requirements necessary for qualification to sit for a Louisiana State Board of Clinical Pathologists' approved Clinical Laboratory Sciences national certification examination.
Experience: Minimum Required: Three years of Clinical Laboratory experience.
License/Certification: Minimum Required: Licensure by the State of Louisiana as a CLS-G or CLS-S, meeting all the requirements of such licensure. Preferred: Successful completion of a nationally recognized certification examination.
Special Skills/Training: Minimum Required: Ability to obtain and interpret clinical information utilizing independent judgement.
