Phlebotomist II

The main function of the Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate as required.
• Update patient information accurately and promptly.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection clearly and courteously to patients.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Understand and execute all physicians' orders correctly.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperature and protocol.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed, as required in some states.
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2-4 years of experience in the field.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Must have at least 2 years of experience, non-negotiable.

Work Environment

The position is based in St. Johns BA and operates from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. There are no weekend shifts required.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
