Cleveland Clinic Children's is a 120-bed hospital that consistently ranks as a national leader in pediatric clinical care by U.S. News & World Report's "Best Children's Hospitals". It is part of the Cleveland Clinic Health System and is a non-freestanding children's hospital that resides on the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus. In addition to supporting pharmacy operations at the Children's Hospital, technicians have the opportunity to support the outpatient infusion clinic as well as Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital for Rehabilitation.
A caregiver in this role works variable hours, including three weeks of day shift followed by one week of second shift. Day shifts run from 6:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., and second shifts are from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. This position is Monday through Friday and includes a rotating weekend every third week.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
- Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
- Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
- Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
- Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
- Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- High school diploma or GED
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National HealthCareer Association (NHA)
- Active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee
- Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program
- 6 months of hospital experience
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
