Overview:
The Carrier Clinic Admissions Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner performs timely medical clearance reviews for all patients referred to Blake Recovery Center and Carrier Clinic. Assures all patients who present at Carrier's Admissions Department are appropriately evaluated and treated. Completes psychiatric history and mental status evaluations on patients and assigns them to the appropriate level of care. Schedule is 3-11pm. Weekends and holidays as needed. Psychiatry experience prescribing meds for at least 1 year required.
Responsibilities:1. Performs medical clearances via telephone and documents review for pre-screening for medical conditions and infectious diseases to determine if further information and/or stabilization is required before accepting the patient for evaluation or transfer from another facility. 2. Provides emergency psychiatric and medical treatment to walk-ins, patients, residents, staff students, and employees. Follows all EMTALA regulations and Carrier's policies related to EMTALA. 3. Completes admission evaluations, assessment of strengths and assets, mental health status and determines the psychiatric and medical diagnosis. 4. Completes initial treatment planning: initial medication orders, status, laboratory tests, diets, etc. 5. Completes all documentation as required. 6. Responds to Utilization Management and documents requests efficiently and timely. 7. Consults with the Nursing Director/Supervisor, as needed with questions related to bed availability and/or acuity. 8. Participates in departmental performance improvement projects and protocols. 9. Documents unusual incidents and completes all incident reporting requirements. 10. EMR documentation for patients requiring special monitoring, e.g., suicide precautions, seclusion or restraints. 11. Contact family/significant others as needed. 12. Contacts referral and managed care resources as needed. 13. Participates in Medical Staff Meetings at the request of the Chief Medical Officer. 14. Acts as Carrier's professional representative to the community and referring agencies as requested. 15. APN's adhere to Collaboration Agreement. 16. Required to be available throughout the shift at all times and respond to calls/pages. 17. Adheres to timekeeping and payroll policies. 18. Other duties and/or projects as assigned. 19. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications:Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 1. Graduate of an approved APN Program or Successful completion of an approved physician's assistant program, accredited by the AMA Council on Medical Education. 2. Interacts well with patients, visitors and staff. Ability to respond promptly to inquiries with tact and sensitivity. 3. Demonstrates a courteous, cooperative, pleasant and positive attitude. 4. Maintains strict standards of confidentiality. 5. Maintains membership in professional organizations. 6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 7. Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms. 8. Psychiatry experience prescribing meds for at least 1 year required.Licenses and Certifications Required: 1. Advance Practice Nurse License or Physician Assistant License. 2. Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist Certification or Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certification. 3. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification or completed in the first 90 days of employment.
