Network Engineering Specialist

We are seeking a talented Network Engineering Specialist to support our Defense Enclave Services (DES) team, crucial to the digital modernization efforts for DISA and Fourth Estate Agencies.

This position is primarily Monday-Friday during the day shift, but flexibility for shift changes is essential based on mission requirements. Be prepared to work mid or swing shifts as needed.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT:

• You must hold an active Secret security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design, maintain, and operate Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), Wireless systems, Internet connectivity, and Network Security.

• Maintain and install existing network equipment in plant environments.

• Optimize overall system performance and ensure effective dataflow management.

• Conduct data captures to gather network performance information.

• Minimize latency and enhance data throughput via design analysis and performance monitoring tools.

• Contribute to the design of network architecture and mission framework.

• Integrate, configure, deploy, test, and maintain various network devices and methodologies.

• Configure and optimize network connections for front-end and back-end components.

• Gather necessary data for specifying system performance and interface requirements.

• Implement network solutions that support server requirements, including load-balancing, VPNs, firewalls, Traffic Shaping, VoIP, GRE Tunneling, IPSec, IP Encryption, MoIP, and NAT.

• Maintain availability to support the team, including occasional on-call duties and additional hours as needed based on mission requirements.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Understanding of routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, and IS-IS.

• Knowledge of TCP/IP, ACL, NAT, Policy-Based Routing, SDWAN, QoS, high availability, VoIP, Wireless technologies, DHCP, and DNS.

• Proven experience in troubleshooting network hardware.

• A Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of relevant network engineering experience; additional years may substitute for degree.

• Strong analytical ability with a talent for creative problem solving and root cause analysis.

• Committed to documentation and organizational efforts.

• Ability to multitask and adapt in a dynamic environment.

• Must possess DoD IAT level II certification before starting (Sec+).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Familiarity with installing, maintaining, and repairing wireless communications systems and subsystems.

• Proficiency in Cisco IOS and other IP/transport protocols.

• Expertise in IP principles and methodologies.

• Experience with devices such as Cisco routers, Palo Alto Firewalls, and Cisco switches.

• Familiarity with networking tools such as Science Logic, Catalyst Center, or Ansible Tower.

• CCNP Enterprise certification is highly preferred.

• Experience with DISA STIGs and implementing network security controls.

• Skills in configuring routers, switches, and other network devices with security best practices.

• Experience in managing security patches and updates.

• Ability to manage firewalls, VPNs, and other security appliances effectively.

• Capability to tune security devices for optimal performance.
