Medical Laboratory Technician I

As a crucial member of our clinical laboratory team, you will perform vital testing across various sections, including general laboratory, Blood Bank, and Microbiology. Your role will encompass all tasks necessary to ensure accurate and timely results, including:

• Conducting quality control and performance improvement.
• Carrying out proficiency testing and preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Recognizing and managing abnormal critical values following established guidelines.
• Performing clerical, general, and phlebotomy tasks essential for daily operations.
• Dispensing blood products as per medical staff requests.

You will also:

• Efficiently collect, handle, and process specimens, ensuring proper labeling and chain of custody.
• Report results accurately and promptly, including critical values as per policy.
• Conduct laboratory testing in multiple sections such as Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Chemistry, and more.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Perform quality control according to established policies, adhering to CLIA, CAP, AABB, and JCAHO guidelines.
• Maintain equipment through daily and periodic preventative maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Keep the laboratory stocked and organized by managing supplies and reagents.
• Contribute to your professional growth and assist in the training of new associates and students.
• Comply with all relevant safety, infection control, and hazardous materials protocols.
• Utilize the laboratory information system (LIS) and hospital information system (HIS) to manage results.

Job Requirements:

• Education: Associate's Degree or higher in clinical laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
• Experience: No experience required for graduates of accredited clinical laboratory programs; six months of clinical laboratory experience preferred.
• Licenses/Certifications: State licensure required in Louisiana; new graduates must be Board Certified or eligible (must complete certification within 1 year of hire).
