Medical Assistant Opportunity

UPMC Endocrinology in Lemoyne is looking for a Medical Assistant. The schedule is Monday-Friday, either from 7:30am-3:30pm or 8am-4:30pm. The Medical Assistant will assist physicians with various aspects of patient care (including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks) ensuring patient satisfaction. Responsibilities include:

• Accompanying patients to exam/procedure room.
• Assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
• Collecting patient information/history, taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines.
• Relaying instructions to patients/families.
• Sending/receiving patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
• Obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
• Completing forms/requisitions as needed.
• Preparing and managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
• Scheduling appointments.
• Verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics.
• Preparing patient rooms, setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.
• Cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
• Managing inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
• Checking schedules and organizing patient flow.
• Answering calls and providing pertinent information including patient education as directed.
• Performing clinic procedures according to policy and procedure.
• Performing phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs.
• Assisting physicians with procedures.
• Complying with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health). Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
• Under the direction and supervision of a physician, administering injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate.
• Other front office responsibilities, as required.
• Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Medical Assistant:

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.

Medical Assistant, Senior:

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Successful completion of Medical Assistant Program or equivalent hospital program (LPN/RN/EMT) OR successful completion of certification examination (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA) OR at least 1 year of patient care experience required.
• Must be responsible and demonstrate proficiency in three practice category specific tasks.
• Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.

Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the Medical Assistant Career Ladder, based on their individual experience and education.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

• CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
• Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
• Act 33 with renewal
• Act 34 with renewal
• Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
