We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Environmental and Life Safety Manager with a background in the pharmaceutical or life sciences industries to join our site EHS team and enhance our site-wide environmental and life safety programs. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned EHS professional with proven expertise in environmental regulatory compliance, environmental permitting, life safety and fire safety programs. A key focus will be on developing and improving EHS programs, completing environmental reporting, writing EHS procedures, emergency response, life and fire safety compliance.

Responsibilities:

• n

  Develop, implement and continually improve programs to ensure compliance with applicable local, state, federal regulations (e.g., EPA, NJDEP, OSHA, NJ Uniform Fire Code, NFPA).

  Serve as a subject matter expert in areas of environment (air, water & waste), life safety and fire safety.

  Develop and oversee emergency response planning and program elements (e.g. first aid response, hazardous materials spill response, fire alarms, etc.)

• n

  Conduct comprehensive environmental (air, water & waste) and life safety assessments identifying areas of improvement and implementing mitigation strategies across laboratory, maintenance and manufacturing operations.

  Lead and/or support the investigation of EHS incidents, near misses, and non-compliance issues; drive root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.

  Serve as a trusted partner to fellow EHS team members, operational staff, and site leaders to foster a strong EHS culture.

• n

  Collaborate cross-functionally with site operations such as Manufacturing, Quality and Facilities to integrate effective environmental, life safety and fire safety programs into all business operations.

• n

  Maintain and enhance site preparedness for emergencies, hazardous material handling, and waste management in alignment with best practices and industry standards.

  n

• n

  Support internal and external EHS audits, inspections, and regulatory visits as a site EHS representative.

Knowledge & Skills:

• n

  Demonstrated ability implementing EHS programs in a regulated manufacturing environment.

  n

• n

  Strong working knowledge of federal and New Jersey environmental regulations and industry standards applicable to life sciences operations.

  n

• n

  Strong working knowledge of life safety and fire safety regulations and best practices (e.g. NJ Uniform Fire Code, NFPA, Emergency Response, etc.)

• n

  Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing EHS management systems and programs.

• n

  Strong communication and influencing skills.

  n
n
• n

  Experience in coaching teams and building collaborative relationships at all levels of the organization.

• n

  Professional certifications such as CSP, CHMM and/or HAZWOPER are preferred.

Basic Requirements:

n
• n

  Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.

• n

  Minimum of 5 years of experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS), with a strong emphasis on environmental management, including air and water quality, waste management, environmental reporting, and permitting.

  n

• n

  In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, compliance requirements, and best practices for environmental protection.

  n
n
• n

  Proven experience in preparing and submitting environmental reports and permits to regulatory agencies.

  n
n
• n

  Demonstrated ability to identify, assess, and mitigate environmental risks.

  n
n
• n

  Experience in emergency response, including first-aid, medical emergencies, spill response, and fire incidents.

  n
n
• n

  Solid understanding of safety protocols (NFPA) and related safety regulations.

  n
n
• n

  Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with internal teams and external stakeholders.

  n

• n

  Track record of maintaining compliance with environmental and safety standards.

  n

• n

  2 years in a pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences environment ideal but open to other manufacturing environments.

The starting compensation for this job is a range from $86,330 to $104,600 plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).
