Lactation Consultant - Birthing Center - PRN - Varied Shift

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Department: Birthing Center

Schedule: PRN (less than 20hrs per week); Varied Schedule

Certified Lactation Consultant with experience working with Baby Friendly facilities highly preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides lactation care and instruction to breastfeeding mothers and infants.
• Serves as a lactation-related clinical resource, educator, and mentor.
• Performs initial and on-going assessments of patients' lactation goals and issues. Instructs and demonstrates proper techniques and promotes the importance of breastfeeding.
• Identifies the need for standard patient teaching plans and assists with their development.
• Acts as a liaison to staff and physicians when addressing needs associated with breastfeeding.
• Contributes to the development of data tools to monitor and improve outcomes.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• Prior experience in hospital setting preferred.
• Prior experience with Baby Friendly initiative preferred.
• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:

• IBCLC certified preferred.
• Certification specializing in Lactation obtained within 24 Months (2 years) of hire date or job transfer date required.
• Preferred 2-3 year of CLC experience.
