Intraoperative Monitoring Technician
Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Intraoperative Monitoring (IOM) Technician to join our dynamic healthcare team. The IOM Technician will be responsible for providing real-time monitoring and assessment of a patient's nervous system function during surgical procedures. This crucial role ensures patient safety and helps to prevent neurological complications during surgeries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and calibrate intraoperative monitoring equipment according to established protocols.
- Monitor neurological signals, including somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEPs), motor evoked potentials (MEPs), electroencephalography (EEG), and electromyography (EMG), during surgical procedures.
- Identify and troubleshoot technical issues with monitoring equipment to ensure continuous and accurate data acquisition.
- Communicate effectively with surgical team members, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff, to provide real-time feedback on neurological status.
- Document intraoperative monitoring findings and maintain accurate records of patient data.
- Collaborate with neurologists and other healthcare professionals to interpret monitoring data and assist in clinical decision-making.
- Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety.
- Adhere to all relevant regulatory standards and guidelines, including HIPAA and ASET standards of practice.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to document patient information accurately and collaborate effectively with clinical staff
- Demonstrated ability to work in high-pressure environments while maintaining strong team communication and mutual support
- Supports team-based problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., neuroscience, biomedical engineering, physiology) preferred.
- Certification in Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM) or equivalent credential required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in intraoperative monitoring in a hospital or clinical setting.
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting intraoperative monitoring equipment, including EEG, EMG, and evoked potentials systems.
- Strong understanding of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology, particularly as it relates to surgical interventions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with multidisciplinary teams.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and upholding ethical standards in healthcare practice.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a related field (e.g., neurophysiology, biomedical engineering).
- Additional certifications, such as Certified Surgical Neurophysiologist (CSN), are desirable.
- Experience with a variety of surgical specialties, including orthopedics, neurosurgery, vascular surgery, and spine surgery.
- Familiarity with relevant healthcare software systems for data analysis and documentation.
