Histology Specialist

Summary:

Join our team as a Histology Specialist, where you will support pathologists and histology technicians in vital laboratory processes including accessioning specimens, performing grossing procedures, and preparing cassettes. Your attention to detail and commitment to high-quality standards will contribute significantly to our diagnostic services.

Responsibilities:

• Demonstrates the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Accurately assigns accession numbers to surgical, cytological, and autopsy specimens; ensures each specimen is checked for adequate fixative and accurate patient identification while entering all data into the LIS.
• Maintains organized filing systems for paraffin blocks and microscope slides, ensuring all specimens are stored correctly and old materials are archived as per protocols.
• Assists pathologists with grossing procedures for surgical specimens and autopsies; prepares necessary equipment and materials and processes specimens following established protocols.
• Prepares a variety of solutions including fixatives and staining reagents as requested, while reviewing the quality of stains and troubleshooting processes as necessary.
• Conducts specimen searches and retrieves corresponding slides and blocks to aid in diagnosis establishment.
• Provides care that meets the developmental needs of all patients served, ensuring a tailored approach to service delivery.
• Modifies service methods as needed to address the unique physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs of patients.
• Performs additional duties as assigned, contributing to the overall efficiency of the laboratory.

Job Requirements:

Education/Skills

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience

• No prior experience required.
