As a key member of our healthcare team, the Registered Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in upholding our mission and values, ensuring the highest level of patient-centered care. The RN practices within the legal and ethical framework established by the Connecticut Nurse Practice Act, the American Nurses Association standards, and our professional practice model. Leadership, collaboration, effective communication, and a commitment to quality outcomes are essential attributes of this role.

The RN will provide care that:

• Establishes and maintains therapeutic relationships with patients and families
• Integrates cultural and diversity considerations into practice
• Communicates openly with patients, families, and healthcare team members
• Respects and incorporates patients' values and preferences into care planning and evaluation

Responsibilities

1. Standards of Practice: RN practice is guided by the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice (2015). The RN is accountable for the nursing process steps: assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
2. Standards of Professional Performance: The RN is expected to exhibit professional behaviors in areas such as ethics, culturally competent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, and evidence-based practice.

Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred. Current BCLS certification required or to be obtained within one month of hire.

Experience: All RNs are encouraged to engage in the SPIRE clinical advancement program.

Licensure: Current registration as a nurse in the State of Connecticut; clinical specialty certification is highly encouraged.

Special Skills: All RNs should aim for advancement through the SPIRE clinical program.

Physical Demands: The role requires prolonged standing, walking, and the ability to assist patients weighing from five to three hundred pounds. May encounter infectious diseases and must manage physical and emotional challenges in patient care.
