Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Civil Carpenter to join our team, responsible for constructing and aligning forms for duct banks and related concrete structures. The role requires expertise in placing, consolidating, and finishing concrete to meet specified grades and textures, as well as installing conduit and embedded items according to plans.

Responsibilities

• Build, set, and align forms for duct banks and related concrete structures.

• Place, consolidate, and finish concrete to specified grades, textures, and tolerances.

• Install conduit and other embedded items within duct banks according to plans and specifications.

• Use hand tools, power tools, and concrete finishing equipment effectively and safely.

• Strip, clean, and prepare formwork for reuse.

• Read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.

• Collaborate with crew members, equipment operators, and supervisors to ensure timely and quality production.

• Monitor and maintain concrete curing conditions to meet structural requirements.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in concrete forming and finishing in heavy civil or utility construction.

• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

• Knowledge of safe use of carpentry tools, concrete finishing tools, and related equipment.

• Ability to work in confined spaces and around underground structures with a focus on safety and quality workmanship.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in heavy civil construction and carpentry.

• Proficiency in using carpentry and concrete tools.

Work Environment

This position involves working outdoors on a construction site with exposure to weather, noise, and heavy equipment. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required at all times. The role may require working days, nights, and weekends as project needs demand. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs, standing, bending, kneeling, and working in awkward positions for extended periods. You will be working outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind. The position also involves climbing in and out of excavations and working at ground level, requiring manual dexterity to handle tools and materials precisely.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norfolk, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr.
