In the role of Cultural Resources Intern you will be responsible for completing archaeological site documentation, which includes feature and artifact identification and analyses; excavating shovel test pits (STPs); site descriptions; photographs; and mapping. A Cultural Resources Intern will be required to perform the following tasks in the field:

• Walk up to 6 miles a day
• Must be able to record cultural resources in the field without any physical assistance (this could include hiking short distances in scrub and native vegetation and uneven ground conditions in high temperatures)
• Identify historic and precontact artifacts correctly
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds without assistance
• Work hours other than 8 to 5 which may include weekends and/or night shifts
• Must have (or able to obtain) a valid Texas Driver's License
• Be able to operate a vehicle day or night
• Travel may be required at times
• Conduct archaeological surveys and testing
• Complete sketch maps of sites
• Complete field forms accurately and concisely
• Use hand-held GPS units
• Photograph resources

This position does not qualify for relocation or living stipend.

Preferred Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Archaeology, Anthropology, Architectural History, History or closely related fields
• Prefer 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
• Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry
• Candidates must be able to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (e.g., rugged terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures)
• Candidates must also have good organizational skills, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and execute new tasks

Required Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
• Attention to detail a must
• Must possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
• Basic Microsoft Office skills
• An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
