Compassionate Volunteer Program Coordinator

We are in search of a dedicated and organized Volunteer Program Coordinator to join our hospice care team. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for recruiting, training, supervising, and supporting volunteers who deliver vital services to patients and their families. As an essential part of our interdisciplinary team, you will advocate for volunteers while ensuring the program meets federal hospice regulations and the needs of the community.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise all volunteer activities within the designated service area.

• Ensure compliance with Medicare Hospice Conditions of Participation, including the 5% volunteer requirement.

• Assess the needs of patients and families for volunteer services and coordinate suitable placements.

• Recruit, train, and retain a diverse group of volunteers, including Administrative, Direct Care, Vigil, and Bereavement volunteers.

• Facilitate volunteer orientation and oversee annual training requirements.

• Ensure the completion of health screening requirements, such as TB tests and health questionnaires.

• Act as a liaison between volunteers and staff to foster effective communication.

• Represent the volunteer program at interdisciplinary team meetings and within the community.

• Maintain accurate volunteer records, improving documentation and reporting processes.

• Engage in the hospice's quality assessment and performance improvement activities.

• Support volunteers through regular communication and mentoring opportunities.

• Be available to serve as a backup volunteer when needed.

• Assist in reviewing and updating volunteer policies and procedures.

Qualifications - What You'll Bring:

• CPR certification required.

• A valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance are a must.

• A profound understanding of hospice philosophy and the emotional needs of terminally ill patients and their families.

• A strong ability to build rapport with volunteers, staff, and community partners.

• Exceptional organizational and record-keeping skills.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Experience and proficiency in public speaking and group facilitation.

• Flexible, empathetic, and capable of performing both independently and collaboratively.

• Competent in Microsoft Office and proficient with basic office equipment.

Preferred Experience (Not Required):

• A bachelor's degree is preferred or at least four years of related experience.

• Previous experience in healthcare, hospice, or volunteer administration is a plus.
