Hy-Vee Construction is a dedicated in-house department of construction professionals acting as General Contractor or Construction Manager providing oversight on all of our project types small remodels, large grocery stores, c-stores, to full distribution centers. Our team manages the full life cycle of projects from budgeting, procurement, build, closeout, through warranty. Hy-Vee Construction is seeking an estimating intern to help launch and refine our new estimating and data management platform. You'll assist with organizing project data, streamlining workflows, and testing features to improve accuracy and efficiency while gaining hands-on experience in construction estimating and contributing to the development of a more effective cost data management system. Additional training will include but is not limited to:

• Pre-construction project planning
• Conceptual project estimating
• Bid solicitation & bid leveling
• Cost history and data management
• Construction schedules
• Quantity takeoff utilizing AI assisted software

Qualification & Requirements:

• Valid Driver's license
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and construction documents
• Ability to effectively communicate with customers and co-workers both verbally and in writing
• Proficiency with data management and spreadsheet applications is preferred

Education and/or Experience:

The applicant must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in either the Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or other approved collegiate program.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to a construction environment and sometimes be subjected to inclement outside weather conditions such as wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud when on a jobsite. This role will primarily be performed in an office setting, but the employee will be expected to visit active construction sites on a regular basis.
