This position serves as an expert clinical nurse who utilizes specialized knowledge, skill, and competency for promoting optimum care of patients, families and/or significant others within his/her area of identified expertise. The CNS acts as a consultant to the patient, family and/or significant other, nurse, institution, and community in the area of his/her expertise to direct movement toward maximum levels of health.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:

• Graduate of Nursing Program, BSN/BA required.
• Position requires a Master's of Science in Nursing and/or related field or expected date for completion of program of study. Will be referred to as a Clinical Specialist until Master's degree completion.
• Current West Virginia State license as a registered nurse required.

Experience:

• Progressive clinical and/or managerial experience in area of specialty hired.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

• Supports the Plan for Patient Care and facilitates the delivery of nursing care via the Collaborative Practice Model.
• Demonstrates knowledge of Area's of Service Line and assures the provision of area of specialty nursing care in accordance with specialty, regulatory and CCMC practice standards.
• Assists with the development of area/program strategic plans reflective of corporate goals to facilitate effective progress.
• In conjunction with Service Line Department Head, identifies department/program Performance Management Plan processes with staff participation to identify patient care issues/problems and to develop action plans to resolve problems, improve outcomes and exceed customer expectations.
• In conjunction with Service Line Department Head, trains staff to provide competent care through development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of department/program competencies based orientation, education and evaluation programs.

Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate and coordinate programs with a variety of health care personnel, and outside individuals or organizations.

Ability to organize and prioritize time and tasks to achieve a well-coordinated work effort and to effectively meet work schedules, including an ability to integrate multiple factors which may have an impact on patient care, including variance in human resources.
