Clinical Laboratory Technologist

Summary:

Join our dynamic team as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist where you will play a vital role in performing a range of clinical tests across various laboratory sections including General Laboratory, Blood Bank, and Microbiology. You will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely results through quality control, performance improvement, proficiency testing, and equipment maintenance. Your critical thinking skills will shine as you recognize abnormal values and follow procedures to notify the medical team promptly. Additionally, you'll handle clerical functions and assist with phlebotomy duties essential for our daily laboratory operations.

• Collect and manage specimens effectively by performing venipuncture and fingersticks, ensuring accurate labeling and processing.
• Report results diligently; address errors and improbable results and adhere to established testing timeframes across various laboratory sections.
• Conduct Quality Control (QC) assessments as per guidelines from CLIA, CAP, AABB, and JCAHO.
• Execute daily maintenance on laboratory equipment, troubleshoot minor issues, and maintain supply inventory.
• Actively pursue professional development and continuous education opportunities.
• Assist in onboarding and training new team members and students in laboratory protocols.
• Adhere to all compliance standards including CAP, AABB, CLIA, JCAHO, and OSHA.
• Utilize Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Hospital Information Systems (HIS) for efficient result management.
• Complete annual competency assessments on time.

Job Requirements:

Education/Skills:

• Associate's Degree or higher in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent training as per CLIA regulations.
• Successful completion of a military medical laboratory training program of at least 50 weeks or a minimum of 60 semester hours including required science courses.
• Laboratory training or three months of documented experience in each specialty where high complexity testing is performed.

Experience:

• No experience needed for recent graduates of an accredited clinical laboratory training program.
• Six months of clinical laboratory experience, including rotations in Blood Banking, Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids.

Licenses/Certifications:

• State licensure required in Louisiana.
• New graduates should be Board Certified or eligible (Board Certification must be completed within one year of hire, except in Louisiana).
