Position Overview

As a Child Life Specialist, you will make a significant impact by developing, coordinating, and implementing engaging, developmentally appropriate play activities and expressive arts for pediatric patients and their families. Your expertise will guide therapeutic interventions, alleviate stress, and promote family-centered care in a healthcare setting.

Key responsibilities include:

• Creating and managing effective playroom activities and bedside experiences.
• Collaborating with healthcare teams to advocate for children’s needs.
• Utilizing knowledge of child development and family dynamics to establish interventions that reduce distress.
• Promoting coping skills and resilience for families through support and guidance.
• Assessing the effectiveness of interventions continuously.
• Directing and overseeing volunteer involvement in the Child Life department.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Child Development, Human Development, or a related field.
• Completion of a 600-hour hospital Child Life internship prior to hire.
• A minimum of two years’ experience working with children of various ages is preferred.
• Certification as a Child Life Specialist (CCLS), which must be obtained within one year of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within six months of hire.
