R&D Chemist II

Our client is seeking an R&D Chemist II to join their team in Loveland, CO.

Type: Short-term contract (36 months) with potential for full-time if candidate

Job Title: Chemist II or Chemist III

Pay: $25$35/hour for Chem II; $40$45/hour possible for highly qualified Chem III Hours: MondayFriday, 7:008:30 AM to 4:005:30 PM (typical business hours)

What's the Job? Purpose: Develop and optimize automated wet chemistry analyzers for water quality testing. Work independently and collaboratively to improve methods, reagents, and instrumentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe laboratory environment and follow chemical handling and quality protocols.
• Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot wet chemistry methods for ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, phosphate, alkalinity, hardness, and chlorine.
• Formulate and stabilize reagents for analyzers, maximizing shelf life, precision, and field performance.
• Conduct experiments and field testing of prototype instruments; learn from data to guide next steps.

Other Functions

• Work creatively and independentlyable to take a task and "run with it" with minimal oversight. Ability to think outside the box, take initiative, and make data-driven decisions.
• Good communication skills; able to explain technical concepts clearly. Present technical findings to internal teams or external audiences. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support commercialization, customer validation, and product trials.
• Document research, manage experiments, and meet project milestones. Experience with reagents, standards, and pipetting; can calculate and prepare standards efficiently.
• Chem II or Chem III level experience with hands-on lab skills.
• Strong analytical chemistry background (colorimetric, titrimetric, electrochemical techniques). Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and experimental design skills.
• Occasionally travel to customer or pilot sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry (?3 years industrial experience) or Master's degree in Chemistry.
• Hands-on lab experience beyond academic coursework.
• Demonstrated skill in method development, reagent formulation, and troubleshooting.
• Mechanical aptitude with lab instrumentation is a plus.
