Cardiovascular Perfusionist

Summary:

As a Cardiovascular Perfusionist, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and operating critical life-support equipment during invasive cardiovascular procedures. You will provide essential support to physicians and surgical staff, ensuring patient care and safety throughout the surgical process. This position requires a blend of technical skills and medical knowledge. Please note, this job description does not cover all tasks, and you may be asked to perform additional duties as needed.

Responsibilities:

• Fulfill expectations outlined in the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Deliver exceptional patient care during surgical procedures.
• Efficiently maintain and operate cardiopulmonary pumps, Cell Savers, autotransfusers, and intra-aortic balloon pumps.
• Expertly operate life support systems for patients undergoing open-heart surgery, including the cardiopulmonary bypass machine.
• Set up and manage both left and right heart bypass pumps, as well as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation systems.
• Conduct Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumping operations as needed.
• Possess a thorough understanding of anticoagulation management, including heparin and protamine titration.
• Advise surgeons on the administration of cardiac medications.
• Prepare and operate Auto transfusion (blood cell saver) equipment for various surgical procedures.
• Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, cardiology, surgical techniques, and patient management.
• Assist in IABP setup and insertion across multiple settings, including OR, Cardiac Cath Lab, and ICU.
• Maintain inventory and ensure organizational needs are met efficiently.
• Ensure heart-lung machines are cleaned and maintained as per manufacturer guidelines.
• Contribute data for Quality and Infection Control initiatives as necessary.

Requirements:

A. Education/Skills: Completion of an accredited perfusionist program is required.

B. Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience is preferred.

C. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications: BLS certification is required. Board eligibility or certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion is preferred, along with state licensure for perfusionists.
