Cardiac Device Specialist

Reports to the Practice Manager. The Cardiac Device Specialist is responsible for performing interrogations, interpretations and programming Pacemakers and Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (ICDs). Uses EMR (EPIC) software to enter patient data and provides reports for the physicians and patient medical record. A high standard of advanced clinical knowledge in dealing with patients with implanted devices is required. This position works closely with highly skilled staff, electrophysiologists and cardiologists to manage cardiac device needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provides evaluation and device management to patients under supervision to physician. RN will conduct assessment of patient in the office post-procedure.
  2. Management of remote device checks, alerts, patient enrollment and equipment requests. Collaborates with physicians and other members of the cardiac clinical team to determine device needs and recommendations for patients/clients. Assists with departmental processes to ensure patient and process compliance.
  3. Educates patients and families regarding device function, clinic follow-up scheduling and device home monitoring.
  4. Follows company and divisional guidelines for managing commercial inventory and, if applicable, investigational product inventory. Implements and maintains the approved curriculum with associated educational materials designed to meet patient/client needs.
  5. Formulates and implements individualized educational plans which identify goals that include lifestyle counseling and goal achievement. Ensure complete and accurate information in patient chart.
  6. Functions as a resource/mentor and collaborates with multidisciplinary healthcare team members with providing continual education.
  7. Ensures correct billing and coding of device checks.
  8. Responsible for ensuring availability of specialty equipment and supplies. Trains and provides continued education of clinical trial protocols, SEP Heart & Vascular standard operating procedures, and compliance toward the regulations of world-wide regulatory bodies to meet organizational objectives.
  9. OSHA, CLIA and HIPAA compliance.
  10. Proficient in the use of Pace Art, St. Jude, Medtronic, Boston Scientific, Biotronik and ELA programmers.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint and the ability to learn other computer skills.
  • Must have good organizational skills and work professionally with Providers, hospital administration and management, SEP employees and the public.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team-based, decision-making culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently resulting in effective outcomes and on-time performance.
  • Experience in planning and coordinating multi-disciplinary communications strategies, strategic initiatives, and events.
  • Must respond and follow through to requests from customers promptly.
  • Must work carefully and precisely with attention to detail.
  • Must utilize resources wisely.
  • Performs duties willingly and with initiative. Shares necessary information so co-workers can do the same.
  • Cooperates with other departments and work groups.

Education:

Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent

Preferred: EKG interpretation

Years of Experience:

Required: One year "face-to-face" clinical cardiology and EP experience interpreting, programming and educating patients on medical devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators

Or: Completion of Arrhythmia Technology Institute (ATI) Jumpstart Device Training Program within 12 months of start date (a signed condition of employment will be required)

Other Required Skills and Knowledge: Preferred knowledge and management of various processes related to implantable ICDs, pacemakers, loop recorders and CRT/ICM cardiac devices.

Licenses and Certifications: Required: Successful completed of ATI Jumpstart program within 12 months (if required - see years of experience).
