Campus Nutrition Specialist

The Campus Nutrition Specialist is the go-to expert for health, wellness, and nutrition at Auburn University. This role is essential in launching, activating, maintaining, and continuously enhancing the university's health and wellness platform.

This position revolves around three main focus areas: 1. Campus Programming, Partnerships, and Education 2. Food and Safety Oversight 3. Nutrition Consultations. The Campus Nutrition Specialist will collaborate with the culinary team, marketing team, leadership, clients, and campus organizations to enrich student experiences, strengthen campus partnerships, and foster community relations through innovative health and wellness programs and events.

Job Responsibilities

Campus Programming, Partnerships, and Education

• Create and support health and wellness initiatives through engaging programming such as tabling events, food samplings, cooking demonstrations, lunch and learns, health fairs, and guest speaker events.
• Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to reach the student body via social media and pop-up events while assisting students in selecting meal plans that cater to their individual needs.
• Establish and nurture relationships with clients, department heads, and community organizations to align campus dining with wellness initiatives.
• Support peer-to-peer programming and guide student interns as necessary.

Food and Safety Oversight

• Ensure compliance with FDA menu labeling laws, overseeing recipe and menu board signage for on-campus dining locations, retail sites, and catering.
• Partner with the culinary team to assist in menu planning and development, focusing on ingredient and allergen transparency.
• Educate the culinary team on special dietary needs, including food allergies, intolerances, and preferences related to lifestyle or religion.

Nutrition Consultations

• Conduct individual and group nutrition consultations for students, faculty, and staff.
• Utilize Medical Nutrition Therapy and the Nutrition Care Process during consultations, providing evidence-based educational materials from reputable organizations.
• Adhere to HIPAA and FERPA guidelines during all consultation processes.
• Maintain registration through the Commission on Dietetic Registration and Licensure, as well as with the Alabama Board of Examiners for Dietetics & Nutritionists.

Note: Job duties may evolve, and new responsibilities may be assigned as needed. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in nutrition, dietetics, or a related field.
• Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential and Licensed Dietitian status in Alabama. RDN-eligible candidates may also be considered.
• Food safety knowledge with ServSafe certification and food allergy knowledge with AllerTrain certification; must be acquired within 6 weeks of starting the job.
• A minimum of one year’s experience in K12 or higher education food service is preferred.
• Proficiency with PC applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Experience with food production systems and nutrition analysis software is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to effectively interact with clients and colleagues.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse individuals and groups.
• Strong strategic, analytical, and decision-making capabilities.
• Self-motivated and adaptable, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Exemplary integrity and listening skills.
