Business intelligence developers must be data experts, as they work primarily with databases and different types of software. Often abbreviated as BI developer, this job involves developing and fine tuning IT solutions. That can include anything from coding, testing, debugging, designing or implementing newly developed tools. A BI developer spends a lot of time researching and planning solutions for existing problems within the company. BI developers also are responsible for building online analytical processing (OLAP). They also work with databases, both relational and multidimensional. BI developers are often responsible for managing others in the IT department or in the company. This position is most commonly found in office environments in large corporations and in IT companies. Most BI developer positions require a degree in computer science or programming and a substantial amount of work experience, usually around seven years. As the primary focus of this position is to solve problems, BI developers must always been mining data and presenting it in an understandable way. They should be capable of creating tables, writing reports on their findings, and simplify highly technical language for others in the company. 10+ years of experience.

Technical Requirements:

5+ years data experience in Enterprise-level companies

Database proficiency: Oracle, Teradata, or SQL Server with advanced SQL writing capabilities

Redshift experience highly preferred as primary database platform

SQL skills transferable across database platforms for seamless integration

Programming language expertise: Python strongly preferred for automation and algorithm work

Java or Unix shell scripting acceptable alternatives

Must demonstrate consistent programming application in data contexts

AWS cloud platform familiarity beneficial but not mandatory for new team members

Glue and Lambda experience valuable for current infrastructure if the resource knows best practices with each

Team acknowledging their own AWS learning curve, making perfect expertise unnecessary

ETL tool experience with Alteryx as primary platform but cross-tool skills accepted

Informatica, DataStage, or Talend experience directly transferable

Focus on underlying data transformation logic rather than tool-specific expertise

Experience as a lead is preferred as this resource will be presenting their reports to higher level execs
