Automotive Apprentice Or Technician

This position can be filled as an Automotive Technician Apprentice II, Automotive Tech or Automotive Technician Sr. depending on qualifying candidate's experience.

Job qualifications include performing all tasks required for the Automotive Hydraulic Technician Apprentice 1 and those listed for Apprentice 2 for all Entergy owned, leased, and rented equipment. Lead or assist in the more complex repairs and maintenance of all Entergy owned, leased, and rented equipment. Perform the following and related tasks with indirect or limited supervision and assist in more complicated tasks with qualified automotive hydraulic technician; qualified supervisor; qualified manufacturer or vendor representative (Ex: Altec; ITL). Travel safely to jobsite in Entergy vehicle and work with customers to complete tasks with minimal interruption to line activity. Employee in this position will advance when applicable qualifications, experience, and special qualifications are met; along with completion of appropriate Skills Assessment.

Automotive Technician 2 must be qualified to:

1. Use diagnostic tools and schematics to identify and correct issues with electrical systems, engine, transmission, and aerial systems on all Entergy owned, leased, or rented equipment.
2. Possess basic automotive electrical knowledge and have ability to use DVOM for voltage, resistance, and continuity testing.
3. Make all necessary and routine repairs to internal combustion engines, exhaust systems, and emission control systems including use of manufacturer task specific tools.
4. Make all chassis related repairs to steering and suspension systems.
5. Search electronic sources to find information such as equipment identification info, inspection and repair procedures, fluid capacities, and torque specs.
6. Accurately use task specific mechanical tools.
7. Properly diagnose and repair automotive HVAC systems.
8. Have basic cutting and welding and fabrication skills.
9. Be accompanied by Automotive Hydraulic Technician during off system storm response. Will be requested to support off system storms as the need is required.

B. Experience and special qualifications:

1. Meet all qualifications, experience, and special qualifications for Automotive Hydraulic Technician Apprentice 1.
2. Have worked for at least two years, and qualified, as a Automotive Hydraulic Technician Apprentice 1, or have had equivalent experience in related work or have automotive or related certification from accredited institution.
3. Complete within 12 months: all manufacturer computer-based training as assigned by Fleet Management.
4. Hold IFPS certification.

1. Must be IFPS certified prior to promoting from Apprentice 1 position.
2. New hires at Apprentice 2 level or above, must obtain IFPS certification within 6 months of employment. Company will pay for 2 certification attempts, and time involved. Employee may attempt as many times and as often as they choose at their own expense. Company will reimburse testing cost only for their passing attempt.

1. Must obtain automotive HVAC certification within 12 months through EPA approved source such as ASE or MACS.
2. Will be required to complete manufacture bucket, digger and PDM training as classrooms are available.

1. Meet all personal qualifications for Apprentice 1 Tech position.

Automotive Technician must be qualified to:

1. Find and use diagnostic tools and schematics to identify and correct issues with electronic systems, engine, transmission, and aerial systems on all Entergy owned, leased, or rented equipment. Expert ability in use of diagnostic tools for diagnosing and repairing vehicle and equipment systems.
2. Possess high automotive electrical knowledge and Expert use of DVOM for all vehicle and equipment diagnostic purposes.

B. Experience and special qualifications:

1. Meet all qualifications, experience, and special qualifications for Automotive Hydraulic Technician Apprentice 2.
2. Have worked at least 2 years and qualified as an Automotive Hydraulic Technician Apprentice 2 or have had equivalent experience in related work or have automotive or related certification from accredited institution.
3. Complete understanding of automotive electrical and DVOM usage. Ability to find and understand electrical schematics; test and diagnose sensors, switches, and other circuit components.
4. Advanced understanding of internal combustion engines and emission control systems.
5. Advanced hydraulic understanding. Ability to research and understand hydraulic schematics.
6. Will be required to complete manufacture bucket, digger and PDM training as classrooms are available.

C. Physical qualifications:

D. Personal qualifications:

1. Meet all personal qualifications for Apprentice 2 Tech position.
2. Be capable of assuming supervisory responsibilities.
3. Understand importance of always rendering and maintaining first class, courteous service.

Automotive Technician Sr. must be qualified to:

1. Expertly navigate manufacturer websites for diagnostic and repair information.
2. Expertly diagnose and repair electrical systems, emission control systems, automotive HVAC systems, brake systems, suspension control systems, and hydraulic systems found of Entergy equipment.

B. Experience and special qualifications:

1. Meet all qualifications, experience, and special qualifications for Automotive Hydraulic Technician.
2. Have worked at least 2 years and qualified as an Automotive Hydraulic Technician or have had equivalent experience in related work or have automotive or related certification from accredited institution.
3. Expert understanding of internal combustion engines and emission control systems, and repair practices demonstrate by ASE standards below.

1. ASE certified in at least 3 of the following, or Master certified in A-Series or T-Series: T1-Gasoline Engines; T2-Diesel Engines; T4-Brakes; T6-Electrical/Electronic Systems; T7-HVAC; A6-Electrical/Electronic Systems; A7-HVAC; A8-Engine Performance Entergy will provide the latest and appropriate training material from ASE at no expense to the employee.

1. A-Series will be accepted due to Light Duty technology (at time of this document) generally being more advanced than Medium Duty.

1. Company will pay for ASE certification and time involved for a total of 3 attempts per employee per test. Employee may attempt as many times and as often as they choose at their own expense. Company will reimburse testing cost only for their passing attempt if it is in excess of the 3 allowed attempts. If inside the 3 attempts, time will be reimbursed as well. Special consideration may be made for paying additional test attempts over the 3 (management decision).

1. Advanced understanding of hydraulic operations and repair practices completed Altec bucket, digger and PDM training as Automotive Hydraulic Technician.
2. Certified in Arc or Mig or Aluminum welding through accredited institution.

1. Company will pay for welding certification and time involved for a total of 3 attempts per employee. Employee may attempt as many times and as often as they choose at their own expense. Company will reimburse testing cost only for their passing attempt if it is in excess of the 3 allowed attempts. If inside the 3 attempts, time will be reimbursed as well. Special consideration may be made for paying additional test attempts over the 3 (management decision).

1. Meet all personal qualifications of Automotive Hydraulic Tech position.
2. Be willing and able to take lead role when working with peer or subordinate technicians to complete tasks in safe and appropriate manner.
3. Excellent time management skills including ability to supervise/lead groups of employees to complete tasks within commit dates and deadlines.
