Job Details
We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer with strong expertise in warehouse automation systems, PLC programming, and integration with SAP EWM and WCS platforms. This role will work closely with business stakeholders, project teams, and equipment vendors to ensure process control systems meet operational, compliance, and global standards. The engineer will be responsible for programming, debugging, commissioning, and maintaining automation systems in warehouse and pharmaceutical environments, with a focus on seamless integration between IT and OT systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Program, debug, and maintain PLCs (Siemens S7-1500 preferred) within warehouse automation systems.
- Support commissioning and testing of Siemens PLC automation projects tied to SAP EWM or other WMS platforms.
- Work with commercial/custom WCS systems (Dematic iQ, Honeywell Intelligrated Momentum, Swisslog SynQ, etc.) to ensure smooth operations.
- Analyze inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and misaligned processes between WCS, WMS/EWM, and automation layers.
- Debug task execution issues, ensuring correct routing of warehouse orders between SAP EWM, WCS, and equipment.
- Integrate AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots) and other automation technologies (robots, conveyors, palletizers, AS/RS systems) into warehouse systems.
- Collaborate with IT teams to ensure automation systems meet cybersecurity and Active Directory requirements.
- Ensure automation projects comply with GxP standards and Good Automated Manufacturing Practices (GAMP).
- Support audits, inspections, and compliance initiatives for process control systems.
- Create and maintain SOPs, best practices, and maintenance procedures for automation systems.
- Use Lean/Six Sigma tools for systematic problem solving, process improvement, and project management.
- 5–7 years of engineering experience in warehouse automation, utilities, or process-based manufacturing.
- Expertise in PLC programming/debugging (Siemens S7-1500 preferred).
- Experience integrating WCS platforms with SAP EWM or other WMS systems.
- Strong understanding of warehouse automation equipment (conveyors, robotics, AMRs, AS/RS, palletizers).
- Working knowledge of SCADA, DCS, MES, Oracle, MS SQL, Historian, and general controls.
- Ability to troubleshoot WMS/WCS to automation layer issues.
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks (GxP, GAMP) in regulated environments.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and execution skills.
- Experience with cLEAN® or Six Sigma methodologies.
- Knowledge of SAP EM, SAP EWM, and other logistics automation systems.
- Proven expertise in warehouse automation environments (pharma/regulated industry experience a plus).
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and vendor management skills.
Lean Six Sigma certification a plus.
GAMP or related regulatory compliance certifications a plus.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field (required).
Associate degree with 5+ years of relevant engineering experience may be considered.
High School Diploma/GED with 7+ years of engineering experience may also be considered.
