As an Associate Director, UX, you will lead, nurture and scale a creative, design thinking culture ready to deliver AbbVie's next-gen digital solutions. This position requires an accomplished UX leader that will drive collaboration, transparency, and clarity between multiple teams and functions, while fostering a culture of user-centric design. You will appropriately pair the right approaches with project size to achieve high quality outcomes at reasonable cost. Lastly, you will utilize your strong business insight, intuition, and presentation skills to keep key partners and division leadership well-informed of progress and impact. Responsibilities:

• Define and lead the user experience practice for AbbVie's enterprise IT function.
• Build a practical UX practice that appropriately pairs the right approaches with project goals to achieve high quality outcomes at reasonable cost.
• Align and embed UX services and talent with top business priorities and projects.
• Work with executives and client partners to understand their business goals, roadmap priorities, strategic investment areas and the problem space UX can been enlisted to explore.
• Oversee UX research and UX design functions. Manage UX people leaders and their direct reports.
• Utilize your strong business insight, intuition, and presentation skills to keep key partners and division leadership well-informed of progress and impact.
• Establish, sponsor and support the design system program and core team to improve design quality, design consistency and speed in delivery for teams across AbbVie.
• Build and evolve UX research and design best practices within the Design Center of Excellence.
• Evangelize user experience and user-centered design throughout the company. Help elevate the role of UX and support the maturity of the Design COE. Develop and mentor people leaders, direct reports and the broader Design COE. Build trust and relationships to help evolve UX capabilities, methods, standards, best practices and ways of working.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor or Master's degree in Design, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, equivalent certification or a related field of study.
• 10+ years' experience as a UX practitioner for web, mobile and software applications with 5+ years' in a people leader role. It is expected that you have a significant track record of leadership and solutions.
• Strong business acumen; Experience leading UX design teams for enterprise software solutions and / or complex business solutions.
• Outstanding communicator both verbally and in writing. Strong consultation and collaboration skills. You can present persuasively to cross-functional teams, stakeholders and executives. You use storytelling and persuasion to create materials that connect vision, strategy and action plans at an organization level.
• Proven experience building, leading and maturing UX teams at global and matrixed organizations. Proven experience overseeing and directing UX managers and direct reports across a variety of research and design projects that follow a user-centered design process.
• Experienced with leading research and design tools such as UserZoom, UserTesting.com, Optimal Workshop, Sketch, Adobe CC, Figma and InVision.
• Experienced coaching managers on building trusting, candid relationships with their teams to enable productive development conversations.
• Ability to switch between the macro: big picture thinking of our users' needs and what could be, and the micro: the specific design of an experience and how it impacts what people do and feel.
• Experience leading the evolution of a design system to support the design and dev activities of project teams.
• A portfolio demonstrating how user research findings and insights had a measured impact on the overall user experience and demonstrated value to the business.
